Son exposé s’intitulera "From building blocks to the complete house: around multimodal and Stimulated Raman imagings".

Abstract: When a high electric field provided by an ultrashort optical pulse is focalized into a medium, it can make its optical properties change, leading to the generation of nonlinear optical effects. Among them, second harmonic generation (SHG), two-photon excited fluorescence emission (TPEF), or stimulated Raman scattering (CARS, SRS), are the most employed ones to generate contrasts for microscopy in an increasing number of applications. Since the conditions for their generation are usually fulfilled by different biological organelles, detecting these different signals allows a multi-viewpoint observation of a sample called multimodal imaging, done without any exogenous fluorophores. Especially, stimulated Raman scattering requires at least two optical frequencies whose difference corresponds to an intra-molecular bond vibration frequency of interest. Numerous nonlinear fiber optics and instrumentation developments have been conducted these last 15 years to get suitable and user-friendly systems which can serve as a basis to multimodal systems. Taking these requirements into account, the central part of this talk will follow the path of light through an imaging system and deal with nonlinear fiber optics thoughts and developments to generate a suitable light source for multimodal imaging.
